Talking to family members about helpful/unhelpful things they can do to support your child.
Families with children with developmental delays can find it hard to get support from a family member or a friend. Sometimes it can be because the family member doesn't understand your child’s difficulties or doesn't know how to act to give you good support. Providing information on helpful ways a family member or friend can support or talk to your child can be very helpful!
Tip for Christmas
A good idea could be to create a list of things that your child likes/dislikes and another list with rules that your family and your child (routine, food, stressful situations to avoid, etc) follow to make things run smoothly.
If your friends or family members know all this information there is more probability the help they offer you will be successful.
