When children come home from school, they tend to be hot, exhausted and their favourite adjective for the day can seem to be ‘boring.’ Therefore getting them to do homework can be a real challenge.
There are a few things that might help set a good routine
- have a small reward for them when they finish school, such as a little bag of sweets or healthy treats.
- keep things consistent, e.g. have a set dinner time so that children know when they will be eating, and so that they learn asking for food constantly before dinner will always be responded to with a no!
- Limit screen time! Whilst all children love their screens and the various games that come alongside them, screen use combined with tiredness tends to lead to tantrums, get them into a routine where they know screen use is limited and comes after their responsibilities.
