Physical ill health in a parent can be difficult for everyone. You may have less capacity to do the things that you used to do, or energy for play with the children which can bring up many difficult feelings.
Some ways of supporting your child through this:
- Stick to household routines as far as possible to maintain structure in the home
- Work out the way that you can spend quality time with your child eg, by reading or writing or drawing, or having them learn a song and sing it to you and spend time with them in a way that won’t leave you exhausted or more ill
- Enlist friends and family members to offer time and fun with your child so that you get a break and they continue to have fun and feel supported.
