It is thought that around 50% of marriages will end in separation or divorce, so one thing you can be sure of is that though it might feel like it going through this process, you are not alone!
People might separate for a number of reasons;
- Falling out of love
- an affair
- not spending enough time together due to work
- traumatic life events, such as loss of a child, or too many children!
For parents with a child with a developmental delay the stressors are more as they manage the additional demands placed upon them.
Underneath every marriage is a need for communication. To listen to and understand each others needs and wants, and to do our best to meet them.
To make a choice each day to love on a day when we don’t feel like loving, and to make room for mistakes and offer up grace and forgiveness.
Most couples begin to seek help when it is too late. We would encourage parents to seek support from the point at which they notice something is not working.
Seeking professional support does not indicate a weak marriage, it indicates a commitment to growing your relationship together.
