When you do have therapists on your home programme, it is likely that you will attend all of the programming consultations and training that your therapists receive. This may be fortnightly, monthly or quarterly and will depend on the level of intervention that you have. You attending the training will ensure that you are kept fully up-to-speed with what is required of your therapists, how they are getting on and how your child is getting along.
It is likely that you will receive additional training to your therapists. This is so that you can be fully trained in behaviour analysis. In our experience, our families have been better therapists and their children (or teens or adults!) have enjoyed more success when everybody learns the basics in Behaviour Analysis.
You will receive training and guidance in how to reach targets (from language targets through to self-help skills, target behaviours and academics) as a way of life, whether it is bath time, bed time, out and about or on holiday.
We also find that a key to success is short and frequent contact with your consultant. During this time, which we call 'interim consultation', you can receive more training, discuss successes and struggles and keep things moving quickly. Frequent interim consultation also means that you are more likely to stay motivated and keep up momentum.
Because our experience has shown us that increased consultant contact with our families increases success for our learners, we keep interim costs as low as possible. The more interim contact you have with us, the lower the cost of each 'interim consultation'. During each interim consultation, we typically answer emails, review data and video and then have a skype call with our families or send written feedback.
Did you know that we also run separate recommendations for Dads and extended family members? For those family members who are keen to help but who have less frequent contact with our learners (such as evenings, weekends or holiday periods), we design specific targets and give individualised training to.
