We know family life can get busy and hectic, and at times the chores and responsibilities of the day dominate over spending time together. When you have a child with a developmental delay your days can be filled with appointments, therapys and doctors visits, which leave little for quality family time. Finding moments in the day to communicate and listen to each other is however very important in strengthening a family.
Three tips for strengthening the family through communication
- Listen to each other, that means hearing what the other person has said and not doing other things like looking at the computer at the same time!
- Set aside times to talk to each other as a family about the things important to you, and respectfully listen to each other.
- Contain your sarcasm and put downs! Find a way to say one encouraging comment to a family member each day.
