In our work as behaviour analysts, we aim to ‘teach’ our children and parents new skills they need to learn in order to flourish.
Teaching simply means that once we have identified a skill deficit a child might have, we work with parents to help them to implement the skill in their child. In essence, we instruct them on how to instruct their child.
Example: we may work with parents to help them know how to set up the best environment for them to succeed in. This might be creating a regular schedule or routine and having it posted on the kitchen fridge so that their child knows where to be when and has a sense of structure.
